A spokesperson for the singer informed The Associated Press that Mandisa was discovered deceased in her Nashville, Tennessee residence on Thursday. The cause of her death remains unknown at this time.

Mandisa, born Mandisa Lynn Hundley, hailed from near Sacramento, California, where she honed her singing skills in church. Her rise to fame began when she achieved ninth place on "American Idol" in 2006.

Upon her departure, host Ryan Seacrest commended the singer, describing her as "a great spirit on the show.".
